COVID-19 Tax Relief (Economic Impact) Payments:
Check out the IRS website for the most accurate, and up-to-date information.
Generally, an adult age 18 and older who is not listed as a dependent on another person's tax return can receive up to $1,200. If the adult has a minor dependent (under age 17) an additional $500 will be issued per minor dependent.
Eligible people who already have direct deposit information on file with the IRS (either due to filing taxes for 2019 or 2018 tax year), will have the payment auto-deposited into their bank account.
Be careful - there are many new scams going around about the payments. Do not ever give your bank information to someone. The IRS will NEVER call you and will never ask for your information over the phone. ALWAYS check the above linked IRS website for information.
Not everyone over the age of 17 will be eligible for a payment. Individuals over age 17 that were claimed on someone else's tax return will not receive a payment. Check out this Yahoo news article for more information.
To ensure the IRS has your most current information, file your 2019 tax return now. Even though the deadline has been extended to 7/15/2020 to file, you can still file right now.
